"Bankhar" is the most popular name of dogs in Mongolia, and that's why I'll be calling all the 'John Doe' dogs in this set "Bankhar".
This doggie lived around some shops by the highway, not very far from Ulaan Baator.
"Nokhoi Khor!" - "Hold your dogs!" is said to be one of the most essential Mongolian phrases you should learn before visiting the country. It's used as a greeting when approaching a ger, and based on the assumption that you'll be ripped apart by your host's dogs if they are not held back.
Or is that really so? During my three weeks in Mongolia, I only met two dogs who might actually have done that - the reserved Bankhar and the killer puppy "Jack the Ripper". All other dogs either ignored us, circled our camp looking for food, but kept their distance, or threw themselves at us, looking for play, tummy-rubs and food.
